Hero Electric Optima CX Electric Scooter
Hero Electric Optima CX – India’s Reliable City Commuter
The Hero Electric Optima CX is one of India’s best-known electric scooters, designed specifically for daily urban commuting. Launched by Hero Electric — a dedicated EV brand operating independently from Hero MotoCorp — the Optima CX targets the vast segment of Indian commuters who travel 30–60 km every day for office, college, and errands. The scooter delivers a practical combination of affordability, low running costs, and genuine zero-emission mobility.
The current generation comes in two variants: the CX 2.0 (single battery, ₹83,300 ex-showroom Delhi) and the CX 5.0 (dual battery, ₹1,04,360 ex-showroom Delhi). Both run on a 550W BLDC (Brushless DC) hub motor powered by a 52.2V, 30Ah lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Hero Electric claims a range of 89 km per charge for the standard CX 2.0, with the dual-battery CX 5.0 extending that to approximately 135 km. Charging from a standard 5A home socket takes around 4–5 hours.
In terms of features, the Optima CX comes equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster, LED headlamps, USB charging port, cruise control, walk assist function, reverse mode, and a remote lock with anti-theft alarm. The scooter uses a telescopic fork at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear, providing a cushioned ride on city roads. Braking is handled by drum brakes at both ends with a combi-brake system (CBS) for balanced stopping. The kerb weight sits at approximately 93 kg, making it manageable even for first-time riders and students.
Running cost is one of the Optima’s strongest suits. The scooter consumes around 1.5 units of electricity per full charge, which translates to a running cost of approximately ₹0.19 per km — far below any petrol equivalent. As a registered high-speed variant (top speed 48 kmph), the CX 2.0 requires a valid driving licence and vehicle registration. It qualifies for FAME II subsidy support, further reducing the effective cost of ownership.
